Geboren 1502 in La Gudiña, Galicië, in het Noord-Westen van Spanje; diende aanvankelijk de heer van Salamanca; emigreerde naar México en verzorgde het postverkeer tussen México en Zacateca. Toen hij 70 jaar was, stierf zijn tweede vrouw; trad in bij de Franciscanen te Puebla de los Angelojs. Hij leefde daar nog 28 jaar; de meeste tijd besteedde hij aan bedelen voor zijn huisgenoten.
