Hij was van Duitse afkomst. Voordat hij toetrad tot de camaldulenzer monniken in de buurt van Venetië, viel hij al op door zijn royale aalmoezen aan de armen. Eenmaal monnik leidde hij een leven van voortdurend gebed. Hij werd door rovers om het leven gebracht.
