Hij was afkomstig uit Shropshire en kreeg zijn opleiding in Douai en Rome, waar hij in 1576 tot priester werd gewijd. In 1580 begon hij ondergronds de katholieke van Londen terzijde te staan. Twee jaar later kreeg de overheid hem te pakken en werd hij opgehangen in de Londense Tyburngevangenis.
