Gracilianus was gevangen genomen tijdens de vervolgingen onder Diocletianus. Daar werd een blind meisje bij hem gebracht, Felicissima, met de bede dat hij haar de ogen zou openen. Hij diende haar het doopsel toe. Beiden werden eerst met stenen op de mond geslagen alvorens zij de marteldood ondergingen.
