Ronald van Kirkwall

Ronald was hertog (Earl) van Orkney in Schotland. Hij had een oorlogszuchtige natuur. Op een goed moment in zijn leven legde hij de gelofte af dat hij te Kirkwall een kathedraal zou bouwen. Dat is ook gebeurd. De kerk werd toegewijd aan de heilige Magnus († ca 1105; feest 16 april). In het jaar 1158 werd Ronald vermoord. De toedracht is niet duidelijk, evenmin als het motief van de daders. Om zijn heiligheid te benadrukken wordt er verteld dat er na zijn dood vele en grote wonderen op zijn voorspraak gebeurd zouden zijn.
