Hij stamde uit een geheel heilige familie, werd abt van Bangor en Armagh en leidde een voorbeeldig christelijk leven. Omdat een ander hem de zetel van abt betwistte, ging hij bij de paus zijn recht halen. Op de terugweg stierf hij in de armen van de grote Sint Bernard († 1153; feest 20 augustus) in diens klooster te Clairvaux, Bourgondië.
