Cadwaladr van Wales

Hij was een zoon van Cadwallon, die in 633 tezamen met koning Penda van Mercia de als heilig beschouwde koning Edwin van Northumbrië († 633; feest 12 oktober) had verslagen. Cadwaladr stond bekend als een vredelievend man; bepaald in tegenstelling tot zijn vader kreeg hij de bijnaam 'strijd-ontloper'. Desondanks voerde hij in 658 zijn volk aan in de slag bij Somerset tegen het leger uit Wessex en leed vervolgens een verpletterende nederlaag.

Er zijn een aantal kerken naar hem genoemd, waarvan wellicht ook de stichting op hem teruggaat: ze heten Llangadwaladr in Anglesy, Denbighshire en Monmouthshire.

Hij moet niet verward worden met de Anglo-Saksische heilige Ceadwalla.
